Funding Process

For New Applicants:

We appreciate your patience with us as we shift processes and navigate this crisis together. In response to the COVID-19 crisis, the Howard Gilman Foundation will be accepting Letters of Inquiry from new applicants for 2021 support during Cycle 2 and Cycle 3 regardless of your organization’s fiscal year-end date. The first step is to register an account in the application portal. For a step-by-step guide to completing registration, click here. Please click here for a PDF of the 2021 New Applicant Letter of Inquiry.

If you have questions about whether your organization might fit within the Foundation’s priorities and general eligibility, please contact Conrhonda Baker at cbaker@howardgilmanfoundation.org.

New Applicants are organizations that have NOT been awarded a Foundation Cycle 1, 2, or 3 grant in the last calendar year and are one or more of the following:

  • have never applied before,
  • were declined after submitting an LOI or an application,
  • received one-time discretionary or initiative funding, such as Mosaic, or regranting funds from an HGF-funded regranting partner.

For Current Grantees:

In acknowledgment of the crisis surrounding COVID-19 and to simplify the process for 2021, we have removed the step of submitting an Intent to Apply for all current grantees and will instead just accept applications on a rolling basis. The first step is to register an account in the application portal. For a step-by-step guide to completing registration, click here. Please click here for a PDF of the 2021 Current Grantees Application.

All current grantees have received an email invitation to register accounts in the new grants management system, Fluxx.  If you a designated Cycle 2 or 3 current grantee and have general questions about the process, please contact Conrhonda Baker via email at cbaker@howardgilmanfoundation.org.

We appreciate your patience with us as we shift processes and navigate this crisis together. Please be in touch if there are ways in which we can support you during this challenging time.
