Liene Camarena Fogele

Liene Camarena Fogele is a Program Officer at the Howard Gilman Foundation, supporting New York City’s performing arts organizations and artists. Originally from Mexico City, Liene studied opera at the National Conservatory of Music and earned a degree in Communications before moving to New York. Singing gave her a firsthand understanding of the discipline, resilience, and financial realities of making a life as an artist, and made her curious about what lets artists take risks and sustain their work.

For more than a decade, Liene has worked across New York City’s nonprofit performing arts field. She served five years as Director of Development at Soho Rep, and held fundraising and administrative roles at organizations including HERE Arts Center, Beth Morrison Projects, PROTOTYPE Festival, Look & Listen Festival, and NYU Tisch School of the Arts. Her experience spans small, artist-centered organizations and larger institutions, and has included everything from grant writing and producing galas to working with individual donors and securing major gifts from across the U.S.

Liene is currently pursuing an Executive Master of Public Administration at NYU Wagner School of Public Service, where she is exploring the intersections of philanthropy, public policy, and the systems that shape communities. When she’s not at the theater, you can find her running the streets of New York City, training for her next marathon.
